For Youth

  • Everyone is Gay is a funny and charming blog written by two very smart women. Highly recommended.
  • For a site by LGBT young people for LGBT young people YouthResource is great.
  • For messages from adults that a difficult LGBT childhood can transform into a successful adult lives watch the It Gets Better videos.
  • If you are feeling despair, please reach out. You have no idea how many of us are out here rooting for you. Start with The Trevor Project to talk it out with someone. Or contact me if you think I might be able to help.

For Parents

  • I wrote an article specifically for a parent whose child has just come out as gay to get you started.
  • Then try the Youth resources on this same page and read what your kids are reading!
  • The Everyone is Gay blog has a new site called The Parents Project that helps to explain things for parents of LGBT kids in language that is funny and often feisty.
  • PFLAG, or Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, is the classic support organization with resources and meetings across the country.
  • The Family Acceptance Project is another great resource, particular for families where their child’s feelings are in conflict with the family’s religious faiths. Their publications are available in English, Spanish, and Chinese as well as one explicitly for Mormons.

For News

  • My favorite gay news site is Towleroad.com where Andy Towle keeps it classy while covering topics from politics to culture.
  • Another source for solidly reasoned political and cultural analysis is John Aravosis on AmericaBlog.
  • And the Huffington Post has a whole Gay Voices section with a wide array of contributors.
